Pow Stick Week at The Reason

With snow falling right across the Alps, the 2017 season is starting off the right way. All this week we’ll be focussing on some of the best boards to ride in fresh snow as selected by some of the UK’s top snowboard stores.

At the beginning of every year, these shops get an opportunity to ride all of the product that will be arriving in their stores in the autumn. They do this for a few reasons, but it’s mostly so that they’ll be able to give you, the customer, the proper advice when you’re choosing your new set up – and of course they get to get out from behind the country for a few days of shred. Avant Premiere in La Clusaz, France was the first chance many shops had to test product this year and to say we experienced changeable conditions would be an understatement. When we arrived, snow cover was sparse and on the second day the wind speeds were so high that virtually the whole resort shut down – with the exception of a little T Bar that we lapped all day, before it started to snow, hard. We woke on the third and final morning to a ton of new snow and stoked faces. What followed was a day’s pow fest that was as good as any we had last season. We wanted to get opinions from some of the UK’s top shops and industry heads as to which boards were working well in the soft snow, so we set up right next to the lifts and grabbed them as they came past.

Surfdome are on of the UK’s biggest online retailers and supply snow, skate, surf and outdoor equipment to customers around the world. We caught up with head buyer Tobias Andersson to check out his favourite gear.

agent-rocker-155‘It’s not a powder board as such, but it’s really good at everything. If you needed to pick one board to do a season this would be a very good choice. Floats well, holds an edge through anything, responsive, poppy and stable. Powder, park or piste doesn’t really matter, the Agent Rocker does it all with ease. Ride fast and it feels solid  slow it down and it feels manoeuvrable and playful. One of the best ride-everything boards I’ve tested’

‘New to the Rome line-up for this season, the Rome DOD felt solid and responsive without being overly stiff in the highback, yet able to handle any pressure put through it. The anti-shock highback feature is a nice touch especially for people hitting the park but this works for more than park, this an all mountain/freestyle weapon’
