The Vans Hi Standard series headed to Grindelwald, Switzerland this past weekend for its second successive European stop. This would be a first for Grindewald in hosting this iconic event and the resort didn’t disappoint.
With another strong turn out from the local communities and blue skies supporting, it was another tough day at the office for the judges in deciding who would take home the top prizes.
The events unique format allowed for style and guile amongst the competitors and this was showcased in abundance by Kaspar Hoesli, who took home 1st prize in the Big Air competition, reminding everyone that you don’t need to spin over 720 to be a champion. In the second event of the day, competitors were introduced to the historic Van Doren Best trick where Moritz Thoenen took the top prize making up for his second place finish in Big Air.
The final decision of the day landed on the judge’s laps with them having to decide who would win the overall MVP, eventual winner Leandro Eigensatz now joins last week’s winner Felix Carlier in representing Europe at the Hi Standard finals in the US on the 18th March 2017.
MVP Under 16 – Luis Schneuwly
Best Slam – Joel Staub
Van Doren Best Trick (Rail) – Moritz Thoenen
1st Kaspar Hoesli
2nd Moritz Thoenen
3rd Nico Tille & Lars Zinniker
4th Gino Zahmad
We look forward to seeing you all back in Europe for the 2018 Hi Standard Series!
