TR: We see that you’ve been in Stubai for the past week or so with the GB team. It looks as though it is going off! Can you tell us a bit more about what’s been happening and how the conditions have been?
AF: Stubai has been great, it’s the place to be right now, literally… the lift lines are HUGE, not so good; but the park is firing, and all the US, Swiss, Canadian teams are out. The jumps are in top shape, so it’s been epic. I am back in the UK for 3 days for the ski show and then I head back out there to get in another week 🙂
TR: What are your plans for this Winter, will you be travelling a lot following the big competitions around or will you be spending longer in a base resort?
AF: This season I am planning to hit some of the main contests, I am really excited for Dew Tour in the US, and then I reckon the European open in Laax will be rad. I am also planning to get in the back country for a couple of trips, I love mixing it up and doing a bit of everything.
TR: Do you have any key goals for the season?
Work on my consistency and get some good results under my belt is the plan, plus get RAD in the back country 🙂
TR: Will you be focusing on any film edits this year?
AF: I’d love to collect some good shots and put out an edit, I really enjoy the challenge of pushing myself to get tricks done, and filming is fun, it’s basically just hot lapping with someone all day!
TR: What kit are you riding this year and do you have any new favourite products?
AF: I am rocking the new Vans Aura boots, Roxy Eminence board, the Valley Hoody Jacket, and the creek soft shell pant.
TR: We’re excited about Vans returning with their new boot line this year, which boot do you wear and why do you prefer it?
AF: I am rocking the new Vans Aura boots, they rule, love the colour ways and the new fit is so comfy! It moulds to your feet when you put it on
TR: What boards are in your quiver and do you have a favourite and why?
AF: I love the Eminence, It’s got the C2 Banana Magnatraction going on, so it holds an edge really well, it’s a high performance board so can take a good impact and it’s solid on landing.
TR: Who are your favourite riding buddies and is there anyone in particular that inspires you to keep pushing yourself?
AF: I love riding with the Jones off course, Silje Norendal is a good buddy of mine and has been since we were on Roxy together at age 16! also Cheryl Maas, she’s a legend!
TR: Any top tips for keeping healthy as a travelling athlete?
AF: I travel a LOT and it’s hard to find healthy food on the road, I’ve got into quite a good habit, or try to travel with my own food, or I just bring snacks on the plane and avoid the plane food completely! I once spoke to an air hostess and she put me off for life, she said they pump the food with fat so it’s not dry when they cook at altitude. My favourite travel snacks are Nutrii protein yoghurt, and Wlydsson Nut and seed tubes – they are perfect for on the road.
